Markdown only works in messages. For nicknames, server names and bios, use the Unicode Discord fonts from the generator above.
What Font Does Discord Use?
Discord uses its own typeface called gg sans, which replaced Whitney in 2022. You cannot switch it to another font inside the app, but you can change the font size under User Settings, then Appearance.
That is why people use a Discord font generator: the Unicode letters it creates look like a different font wherever you paste them, including places where markdown does not work.
